Despite embarking on their maiden European adventure, Crystal Palace are learning at a rapid pace. Without key figures like striker Jean-Philippe Mateta and wing-back Daniel Muñoz, the London club left Dublin with a comfortable result that virtually secures them a spot in the Europa Conference League playoffs.
Another three points in their next fixture against Finland's KuPS should be enough to seal direct passage to the knockout stages, particularly following a prior stumble against Strasbourg.
Fringe Players Grasp the Moment
This occasion offered a platform for some of Palace's lesser-used players to impress. Christantus Uche, making only his second beginning after arriving on loan from Getafe, notched the account with a well-taken goal. Forward Eddie Nketiah contributed a second, scoring for the second game in succession.
The Shelbourne side that had concluded their domestic season proved no match against a largely second-string Palace outfit. The visitors were further weakened by the reports that Mateta and Muñoz are out with knee injuries.
Control Asserted from the Start
Despite torrential rain in Dublin, Palace quickly took control. A slick move in the 11th minute, sparked by Daichi Kamada's clever pass, let Nketiah to lay on Uche for a straightforward tap-in.
Midfielder Adam Wharton came close minutes later, driving a powerful shot over the bar. Nketiah then appealed for a penalty after bursting into the area, but the referee waved away the protests.
Ex-Arsenal striker didn't need to wait long to get his goal, tapping home from close range after Uche's shot had struck the post.
The home side were hanging on desperately. Defender Kameron Ledwidge was fortunate to avoid a booking for two robust challenges on Yeremy Pino, before Chris Richards struck the crossbar with a powerful header from a corner.

The match was as good as over eight minutes before half-time. Yeremy Pino meandered past some comically weak challenges before calmly dispatching a shot past goalkeeper Wessel Speel to extend the lead to 3-0.
After the break, manager Oliver Glasner took the chance to rest key players like Kamada and Wharton. Replacement Romain Esse almost scoring his first touch, but saw his shot blocked.
Esse was desperately unlucky later on, seeing one shot crash off both posts before being clasped on the line. Uche then missed a sitter of a chance, showing there is still scope for development in his game.
The only worry for Palace was a late knock to Justin Devenny, who was forced off. This allowed 17-year-old striker Benji Casey to make his senior debut, rounding off an otherwise perfect evening for the visiting side.
