Roughly 50 cars have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's town of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.

Automobiles, walls and mailboxes were vandalized, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they stated in a official communication.

Law enforcement state they were alerted during the night on Wednesday night, when a resident observed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued fluid.

The liquid had been applied in the form of a banned symbol, they reported.

Officers then found numerous other smeared vehicles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.

These symbols are banned in Germany under legislation prohibiting the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.

Police state initial examinations show the liquid was likely human bodily fluid.

"Currently there is no clue as to its source; authorities are not yet aware of any physical harm in association with the incident," they commented.

City officials announced they were attempting "to resolve the incident" and have appealed to the residents for information.

An important representative said the incident made him speechless and needed to be resolved quickly.

"This event affects the core of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the extremist attack half a decade ago," he posted on a platform, mentioning the murder of nine individuals by a shooter targeting people of foreign heritage in 2020.
